Sinodendron cylindricum (male) x11

Sinodendron cylindricum, a small beetle with a big name. Its relatives include the much larger Stag Beetle (Lucanus cervus) and may be found in similar habitats. Only the male sports the impressive rostrum.

 
Common Earwig (Forficula auricularia)

The Earwig, commonly found in leaf litter or lurking under dead bark by day but being nocturnal beetles are active by night scavenging a living. This may include feasting on the petals of prize garden blooms. The male has curved hind pincers whilst those of the female are straight.
